I was perusing a couple of websites the other day and I came across this wonderfully small barebones system from AOpen called the MP945-VXR. The system is actually part of their miniPC lineup which I’m sure some of you saw last year when they unveiled a system that looked remarkably similar to the Mac mini. The latest iteration of the miniPC uses a new design and is a Viiv ready system which is great news for Windows Media Center builders out there. The AOpen MP945-VXR is a black colored version of their MP945 product (it’s also available in a silverish color). Here are the specs to the AOpen MP945-VXR:
- Support for Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processor
- Intel 945GM chipset
- Viiv ready
- DVI/YPbPr/S-Video output
- D-sub
- 5.1 channel audio
- Gb LAN, Firewire, SATA II support
- 802.11 b/g wireless optional support
- Built in IR, MCE remote
- Measures 6.5″ x 1.97″ x 6.5″ and weighs 3 lbs
- 1GB of memory MAX
I must admit - I’m tempted to build a system out of this box.. maybe someday. In the meantime, if you’re thinking of building an HTPC system that’s pretty darn small - give this system a look over. It would be nice if it came with HDMI support but that’s asking a lot huh?
