Sony has begun taking orders for its new all in one desktop PC the VAIO VGC-LS1. The system is a combination LCD television set as well as desktop PC with the PC components tucked behind the display panel. The beautiful 19 inch widescreen display is enclosed within a transparent polycarbonate frame giving the display a floating effect. Aside from the good looks the VGC-LS1 is also a full fledged Windows Media Center PC which means you can watch and record live television. Specs of the VGC-LS1 include the following:
- Intel Core Duo processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 250GB HDD
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
- Dual Layer DVD+-RW drive
- 19 inch widescreen LCD display
- Integrated TV tuner
It’s not quite the perfect HTPC - it lacks an HDMI input which means you won’t be able to connect an HD DVD or Blu-ray drive to the system. It also lacks a powerful graphics processor which means you won’t be able to play the latest 3D games. However if you want something that looks great in the den or in the bedroom, you should definitely take a look at the system.
PC Magazine did a review of the system here on their website and found:
The Sony VAIO VGC-LS1 all-in-one desktop is the closest you can get to an iMac in a Windows PC, but a couple of missteps keep it a hair behind the class leader.
