The October edition of Maximum PC features a guide to building home theater personal computers. I purchased the edition on my flight back to NYC from Los Angeles and it was certainly an entertaining read. Maximum PC covers the ins and outs of building a system including selecting the right case, the right video card, the right components, and the right GUI. Their personal GUI favorite is BeyondTV which is a pretty good system to have on your HTPC. I personally love Windows Media Center (MCE) but to each their own! If you’re looking to build a super powerful system with loads of tuners then BeyondTV is certainly the best system for such a purpose. In the meantime, check out the October edition of the Maximum PC. Our only complaint with Max PC - it’s just a bit expensive.

In this issue they state that they use a 64 bit processor. I purchased all the same parts and built this DVR using a 64 bit amd athlon with windows xp 64 pro. I had two big problems, 1 the firefly driver would not load and the other issue was the live tv did not play properly. Most forums will say not to use 64 bit processor, your thoughts please. FYI… I did get everything to work properly on an older pc with 32 bit processor and windows xp pro but i really want to build this DVR on the 64 bit system. Again your thoughts please. Thank you
