LaptopMag has posted up a review of the Alienware Area-51 m5550 laptop here on their website. The m5550 currently fills the low end slot of their notebook product lineup. Features of the m5550 include:
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor
- NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 256MB GPU or ATI Radeon 128MB Mobility x1400
- Up to 2GB 667 memory
- 15.4 inch widescreen display
- Intel 945PM + ICH7 Chipset
- DVI connector
- S-Video out
- Up to 160GB SATA 5400 RPM HDD or 100GB SATA 7200 RPM
- 7.1 Hi Def Audio
- 2 Speakers
- Measures 14.25″ x 10.75″ x 1.36″ and weighs 6 lbs
Although the system features the Windows Media Center OS, there’s no built in TV tuner so you won’t be able to utilize all the capabilities of the MCE OS. Here’s the verdict:
If you’re looking for superior processing performance at any cost, the Alienware Area-51 m5550 certainly screams. However, there are plenty of other, more balanced models on the market.
