So you want to jump into the whole HTPC market but you’re not sure where to start eh? Then check out PC Magazine’s guide to Digital Entertainment Systems (the marketing slang for HTPC systems that do it all).
The guide showcases various reviews conducted by PC Magazine on home theater PC systems. Systems reviewed include:
- HP z565 Digital Entertainment Center
- Sony VAIO VGX-XL2
- Sony VAIO VGC-LS1
- Dell XPS 210
- Niveus Rainier Media Edition
Is there one system that’s the best you might ask? Well all of these systems come highly rated from PC Magazine so it boils down to what exactly do you need. Do you want something that’ll sit in the living room and look like the rest of your stereo system? Or do you want something that looks more like a PC that also happens to perform double-time as a HTPC unit.
I’ll probably always end up building my own system but this is a totally acceptable route for anyone who wants to get something pre-built and ready to use out of the box.
