SilverStone LC16M Review November 9, 2006
Posted by flung in : Windows Media Center, HTPC Cases , trackbackThe folks at the OCModShop have posted a sweet review of the SilverStone LC16M Case and poses the question - is this the ultimate HTPC case? Of course - I’m biased so I’ll say no just based on looks alone. (My bias is for Ahanix cases normally!) But before we provide you OCModShop’s answers, here are the specs to the LC16M.
- Aluminum front panel, 0.8mm SECC body
- Black or Silver color
- Fits standard ATX or Micro ATX motherboards
- VFD, IR, remoe control, iMON media center software
- 1 - 5.25″ external drive bay and 1 - 3.5 inch external drive bay
- 6 - 3.5″ internal drive bays (that’s a lot for an HTPC case!)
- 2 x 92 mm or 80 mm fan slots
- 2 x 80 mm exhaust fan, 2050 rpm, 21 dBA in the rear
- 1 x 80 mm front fan slot
- 26 in 1 card reader
- Measures 425 mm x 170 mm x 425 mm and weighs 7.3 kg.
So what’s the verdict on this massive case?
Silverstone’s LC16M case achieves what most enthusiasts have been looking for: a home theater PC that operates like an appliance.

None of Ahanix cases have media controls on the front panel! It looks like the LC16M has all the features of the Dvine series + more!
I don’t see any features the Ahanix case has over the Silverstone. The only factor is a matter of looks. Some may prefer the Ahanix, but the Silverstone is nothing to sneeze at.
Foo - you’re right about Ahanix cases not having media controls on the front of their chassis. However, I personally have never really desired controls on the front of an HTPC case - but that’s where personal preference kicks in. I’ve always liked the clean lines of Ahanix cases but SilverStone cases are indeed good as well.
