Well check out this latest article from ExtremeTech which is their last look at building a system that uses Windows XP Media Center 2005. They’re still not quite ready to recommend using Windows Vista as the base OS for a Media Center PC and we totally agree.
In case you’re wondering what components they ended up using for their final system. Here’s the basic components list:
- Silverstone LC20B-M case
- Artic Cooling ACF8 fans
- Seasonic S-12 600W PSU
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
- Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
- ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Wi-Fi Edition
- 2 x 1GB Kingston ValuRAM DDR2/800 memory
- XFX GeForce 7950 GT 512MB DDR3 HDCP Graphics Card
- Power DVD 6.6 Special Edition + NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder
- Seagate 7200.10 500GB HDD
- Sony BWU-100A Blu-ray drive
- AFT Pro-28U media card reader
- Auzentech X-Meridian PCI Sound Card
- 2 - ATI TV Wonder 650 Cards
- Logitech DiNovo Edge Keyboard/mouse system
- Windows XP Media Center Edition Remote Control
There total system price came out to $3189 - a bit high but it’s future proof for Windows Vista.. except for CableCard support.
